Wk 5 & 6 / Innocence Project

I personally had never heard of the Innocence Project until now.  I knew there were prisoners in jail that were innocent and then somehow years later proven innocent and released.  I cannot imagine being an innocent in prison or even worse a family member like a wife or child.  All I can really say is “these poor people”.  The system failed them for a number of reasons and no amount of money can ever replace the lost of time in their life.  No one can replace those lost memories or family events they were not part of.  Looking through the Innocence project’s web page, I was amazed with the Cotton rape case.  What a great heart and character he has.  I would have been so mad, that due to this women and her mistake of identity I spent all these years in jail but instead they collaborate and go around educating people on judicial review and proper procedures in hopes that through education they can help the system and avoid these mistakes.  Each case on their web page is so sad to me; I just couldn’t even begin to understand what they have been through.  I really think that our legal system needs to get it together and have various checkpoints when investigating a case so that these mistakes do not ever happen.  I am hopeful that someday in the future systems will be place in each state that will reduce the risk of an innocent person spending years in prison for a crime they did not commit.
